FUTURE IS NOW started in April 2017 with the creation of a collaborative mural in Kibera, Nairobi, Kenya; born from the reflection on the adversities and challenges that children and youth in Kibera face, and the need to promote and share a message of union and peace ahead of the Kenyan 2017 General Election, as well as the importance of daily choices in the construction of our individual and collective future, in partnership with Art Kids Foundation.
For a second phase of the project, FUTURE IS NOW will be taken to 5 cities in Europe, through the painting of murals with portraits of children and youth who are part of the Kibera community; in a campaign aimed at creating awareness on the rights of children and youth, particularly as set out in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child: the right to equality, the right to a quality education, the right to adequate nutrition and medical services, the right to play, the right to protection against all forms of abuse, the right to freedom, between others.
We strongly believe that the state of underprivileged children worldwide cannot be improved without creating awareness of the conditions in which they live.
The aim is not only to develop artistic interventions but also to arouse in the public feelings such as reciprocity and empathy in order to contribute to the development of a planetary consciousness of the truly universal rights (and duties).
This journey has already begun, in Portugal, in "Recordação" [Remembrance], a wooden boat which in the past was used to transport people between Setúbal and Troia.
